It has been a long couple of weeks for us.......Isabel was sick for about a week and a half, we thought it was just a cold but she started getting worse so we had to take her to the ER in Yuma. They wanted to admit her to run some labs and see if they could find any infections but unfortunately their pediatric unit isn't qualified to take care of her ventilator so she had to be airlifted to Mesa. Isabel and I had an exciting helicopter ride! I had never been on one before and it was surprisingly not scarey! Isabel feel asleep after about ten minutes. She was so tired from her exciting day and it was well past her bedtime. Even though it could have been much worse it is definately not something I EVER want to do again. For anyone who has never been in an Air Evac helicopter, they are tiny. There was barely room for me (they wouldn't even let Francisco go instead of me because he was too heavy). Not to mention that Isabel comes with a lot of equipment. It was very difficult to get her and her ventilator situated so that I could see the vent to make sure nothing went wrong (it ended up on my lap) and be able to suction Isabel if I needed to, the Air Evac people could have done it but I like to do it myself, I know what Isabel needs better than they do :) After about an hour and a half ride we got to Mesa and got all settled in for a stay at the hospital. They did a bunch of lab work and finally found an infection in Isabel's trachea and started her on some antibiotics. After a few days her fever was gone and she was doing much better so she was able to go home to grandma's house in Gilbert. She is still on IV antibiotics which we have had to learn how to give......scarey, I know! But it's really not too hard and she is almost back to normal, woo hoo! We will stay in Gilbert until sometime next week to make sure she is all better and then we're back to Yuma. Cora has been so good through all of this. She has been spending lots of time with her aunts and grandmas and thank goodness she did not start crawling while I was away from her, I would have been so sad!
